Camp Challenge is a Camp Where Dreams Come True
Florida Easter Seal's Camp Challenge was founded in 1961 with a mission of helping children and adults with disabilities achieve maximum independence. Just 20 minutes north of Orlando in Lake County, Camp Challenge satisfies the need in every one of us for outdoor recreation, socializing with friends, and relaxing on a summer vacation. Hundreds of children and adults, ages six through adulthood, have the opportunity to make their dreams come true on 63 wooded acres. Amenities at camp include: 11 air-conditioned cottages; a nurses infirmary; a swimming pool; arts and crafts center; archery and rifle range; nature corral and petting zoo; outdoor pavilion; a half-mile paved nature trail; dining hall and recreation center; hands-on computer program; and much, much more. Staff recognizes the importance of caring for each camper's individual needs. A 24 hour registered nurse and specially trained staff will provide all care necessary. Fully accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA), Camp Challenge has a camper to counselor ration of two to one, ensuring a quality experience.

| Camp Challenge is a Place for Kids To Just Be Kids |
| Children with disabilities are often faced with the
challenge of finding a playground or nature trail accessible to their wheelchair. At Camp
Challenge, these are no obstacles. The only challenge for a young child is deciding which
activity to sign up for. Children choose from fishing, swimming, arts and crafts, and
more...all the benefits of a summer camp. Camp is a vacation filled with fun, laughter, and friendships! For many, a day at Camp is not complete without catching their first big fish in the fishing pond, petting a rabbit for the first time in the nature corral and petting zoo, or just sitting and visiting with an old friend under a tree. The fun doesn't stop when dusk comes. Children enjoy a campfire and sing-along, or a hayride through the woods. Children who visit Camp for the first time always experience being a little homesick, but after a taste of a few of the activities and the glimpse of a new friendship, each child is able to take one more step toward independence and adulthood. Camp Challenge is the only Florida Easter Seal Camp, and provides an opportunity to achieve independence regardless of the challenges a person with a disability faces on a day-to-day basis. |
| Camp Challenge, Freedom, Fun and Friendships |
| Most people think of children when referring to summer
camp, but the truth is adults never outgrow the need for experiencing freedom and fun, as
well as forming new friendships. Camp Challenge recognizes this need and offers a place
where adults can be themselves and not feel different. The typical barriers in the every day life of an adult with a disability are not present at Camp Challenge. Each camper has the ability to go through the nature trail, relax with friends over dinner, shoot the breeze while enjoying the Florida sun, or tell a story about the one that got away while you patiently wait on the dock for the next fish to bite. One of the best evenings at Camp Challenge is the closing banquet. Campers wear their favorite dresses or suits, enjoy a special dinner, dance to live musical entertainment, and savor the memories of the people who make Camp Challenge a place where dreams come true! |
